Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Statement for Always Choose Adventures
At Always Choose Adventures (ACA), we are unwavering in our commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and diverse community where everyone, regardless of ability, background, or identity, has the opportunity to experience the transformative power of the outdoors.
As a nonprofit led by individuals with disabilities and dedicated to empowering others with disabilities, ACA is uniquely positioned to address the barriers that often exclude people from outdoor recreation. We believe that access to nature is a fundamental human right, and we strive to create adaptive, inclusive, and welcoming opportunities for all.
Our EDI principles include:
Equity: Ensuring all individuals have access to resources, programs, and support tailored to their unique needs. This includes providing adaptive equipment, inclusive events, and personalized assistance to make outdoor experiences accessible for all abilities.
Diversity: Celebrating and valuing the wide array of perspectives, experiences, and identities that enrich our community, including people of all races, ethnicities, genders, abilities, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Inclusion: Actively cultivating a safe and supportive environment where everyone feels respected, heard, and valued. We work to remove physical, social, and systemic barriers to participation in outdoor activities.
We acknowledge that systemic inequities have historically limited access to outdoor recreation for marginalized communities, particularly individuals with disabilities. As an organization, we are committed to ongoing learning, reflection, and action to address these inequities. This includes:
Partnering with like-minded organizations to expand adaptive recreation opportunities, including our collaboration with Osprey Packs to create the very first Oxygen Adventure Backpack, the Talon O2.
Providing education and resources that foster understanding and advocacy for inclusive outdoor experiences.
Engaging with communities to co-create programs that reflect their needs and aspirations.
Working with Extreme Motus Off-Road Terrain Wheelchairs to enable individuals, families, and tourists to explore Colorado with their disabled child, parent, loved one, friends, or family.
